I have this tree, but so far, it hasn’t fruited.
There are branches that have come out all over the bottom of this 6 ft tree.
It is not much bigger that when I bought it since there were 2 bad years of 20 degrees, but
the tree survived.
Do I need to cut off all the branches at the bottom or how high should I take them off ?
Does the tree need an smooth trunk to make fruit.
I really know nothing about this tree, but would like to.
I did feed it this year - in Feb and there is lovely red new growth all over.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Carol
Thanks aap, I’ll have to get out there and really get to work. Don’t know how to keep all those branches out of the interior.

Beautiful Tree
Just watched a good video on cleft grafting since I didn’t know what you did.
Great looking graft. Don’t you find the Jabuticaba tree is so slow to grow.
Those look great. Carol
Yes. @aap swapped with me 2 seedlings 2 years ago and they are only 1 1/2 feet tall when I didthe graft a few hours ago. aap swapped some plum scions for Jabuticaba scions. Hopefully in a few years they can be productive. I like the taste especially the fermented ones sat on the counter for a few days.
Is the skin eaten also?I’ve read about it being thick and astringent.bb
Hopefully, Tony will say since he has eaten the fruit.
I have to clear my tree out. It maybe would have produced if I had known.
Learning all the time.
The skin was thick. I just squeezed the Brazilian grape aka Jabuticaba fruit into my mouth and threw the skin away. A very unique taste.
Tony try to grow to a main leader, trunk, side branches later. I like to keep at 6’.
Do you guys know how to keep the brush off the Jaco tree.
I have Sucker Stopper, but it would seem that might hurt fruiting.
I will strip this once I am able with all these gardening chores. Mine already has many branches.
Do the fruit come out only on the main trunk.
Thanks
No, they come on every stick, preferring long ones too. I like my long branches clean, just some leaves at the end.
