I planted this Juliette as a bare root from Spring Hill in 2020. It is now over 5 feet tall. I never trimmed it. Should I open up the center by taking out a branch or leave it be? Any trimming advice is appreciated.
Welcome Mart! Iām sure someone from New England will chime in here soon with some pruning advice.
From my understanding this is a dwarf bush cherry, if so then you need no pruning to limit height as it is said they mature at 10ā. Chances are when the limbs begin to load up with fruit the limbs will droop undue weight and you should get fruit within easy reach. I would not thin at all or prune anything unless you see some limbs beginning to rub against another. While the tree is young look for those occurrences and use some string or spacers to spread the crossing limbs apart. More training than pruning is advised until you see a real need to thin.

Bush cherries do not need the center to be opened. The only branches I pruned off were the broken or diseased ones.
It will grow to about 8-10 ft tall depending on how rich is your soil. I probably keep it at 8 ft as I want to cover it well.
Speaking of cherries, what do you think I ought to do with all these little cluster of leaves / spurs coming off the sides of the trunk of these young cherry trees? I planted them this year. Bought from 1 from Peaceful valley / Dave Wilson Trees (Utah Giant) and two are from Mehrabyan Nursery (White Gold and Black Gold)
