Just some apple porn

Haven’t see much posted about apples lately so thought I’d share some pics of a few of the apples I’ve got growing on my trees. The majority of my trees are 3 years old on B118 rootstock although I also have grafted onto Antonovka, MM106, M7, G202, G30 and G969. I also have a trellis planted with trees on B9 and G41 rootstock. Most trees only have a few apples on but I’m hoping to taste some of them this fall.

Here’s my trellis. 75 ft. 11 trees. 3 wires spaced at 3 foot, 1 1/2 foot and

1 1/2 foot apart.

If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of wire do you use, and are you happy with it?

I believe it’s 12 1/2 gauge wire. We put it up years ago for beef cattle. Now the cattle are gone so I took some down and used it for the trellis. Used the tensioners that we got with the wire and am very satisfied with it.

I am thinking about doing an espalier with some apple trees and seeing what others have done really helps. Your setup seems simple but sturdy and is obviously working very well for you… Definitely something I will consider. Thank you.

@greyphase hey i see you’ve been growing Guyandotte Pippin for 7 years now - can you tell me ALL about it?! Im deciding whether or not id like to plant this as a dwarf or semi dwarf in my orchard, how much tree its worthy of haha. How is disease resistance, taste, etc. Can you tell me the same about Swiss Limbertwig as well? Thanks!

I’m afraid my Guyandotte Pippin is growing in a less than prime spot so hasn’t produced a lot of apples yet, but what it has produced has been disease free and a nice pleasant tasting apple. I consider the Swiss Limbertwig more to my taste with a nice mix of sweet and tart flavor. It also has been disease free. Sorry I can’t be more descriptive on the taste, I guess my palete isn’t to refined. LOL

that’s super helpful - I am more of a sweet/tart guy myself so I’ll give swiss limbertwig the semi-dwarf and Guyandotte the dwarf. Thanks
