Kishu no fruits

Guys, I have a three-year old Kishu Mandarin in houston. Flowered in February and got around thirty small fruits. Just found out today that all fruits turned black and dropped. Any expert opinions on this?

Did it fruit last year?

The year before last (Year 2022), a hard freeze destroyed most of the small Kishu tree. Last year, it recovered from just above the grafting point and expanded well but no flowers or fruits. This year is the first time to have >200 flowers and some small fruits.

It seems a little stressed but not too bad, has it aborted all its fruits or just most of them? I think it’s just recovering from that freeze to be honest. I’m sure you’ve done this but I’d hit it with some good fertilizer and compost. I wouldn’t worry too much, it’s frustrating when they don’t hold fruit when you expect them to. But sometimes it just takes a long time to recover. My sunburst tangerine was covered in blooms and it hardly held any fruit on its 3rd year also.

Yes. All fruits are gone. A few are still on the tree but black or brown.

I ordered a kishu late 2020. In Feb 2021, the crazy texas freeze killed almost all citrus trees in the nurseries. Finally got this tiny kishu, like a chopstick, from the harris county master gardener fruit tree sale in May 2021. Planted it in ground and got it killed much to the stock in another crazy freeze in December 2022. Recovered from just above the stock in early 2023, then suffered badly during the historical summer drought.
Hopefully next year will be better.
