This is the largest and oldest Roman aqueduct in France. Its about 20 minutes from my house and a world heritage site. Its beautiful. The river below is the Gardon. Lots of kayaking and pic-nics.

Had a fabulous picnic lunch/swim there years ago on a Provence bike tour. You’re in a special spot @mrsg47.

In C.E. 10, the engineer Hero built working steam engines. The emperor declared them useless because human slaves were plentiful.

@mrsg47 Would be so cool if water still flowed through those aqueducts. Quite a feat to construct such by mere animal and human labor. Always amazes me to think about how much humans accomplished without fossil fuels.
