Leafed Out Figs for Sale at Big Box

Richmond VA Lowes with figs for sale outside. Guess they have a plan for the cold weather yet to come. They were unloaded today so look a little stressed.

In average, when is your last frost?

Those are actively growing. They’d better have a good plan. Even a light freeze will make them difficult to sell. A hard freeze and they’ll be a real mess.

Forecast further north is down into the mid 30s next week. With stone fruit already starting to show growth here I’m hoping they’re not being optimistic. I didn’t see any sensitive plants out yet at my local HD a few days ago when I was there. Haven’t been to Lowes recently.

I was just at my local Lowe’s and they had these BT sticks sitting there for about $35 each. Ouch

Petunias today at Lowes in Richmond. Six weeks until frost free. I just pity the inexperienced gardeners who plant them this month. I expect to see 26 to 28 degrees again before end of March.

They’ll die and get returned to the big box store. Not sure how this makes money for anyone.

Tomatoes showed up today! Down in 30’s last night got some hit.

Do you remember what type of fig this was @jerryrva ?

No I don’t.

Crumbs! I bought some figs from our local Lowes that were similarly packaged and I can’t find the book that I wrote the name of the fig down in. I’m pretty sure if I read the name I would remember. Anyway, they are very hardy in my 5b-6a zone, but no fruits form. If I figure out what they are, I will offer them up for other to try.

I didn’t see what the local ones had this year, but last year it was Olympian, Brown Turkey and Black Mission.

I’m pretty sure that I have Olympian. Thank you!
