I have been searching for a place to purchase seeds for the Ledmon watermelons for years now. This is the type my uncle from the 1980s always grew. Does anyone know where they can be purchased?
Sandhill has them. I know for certain that Glenn has over a quart of seed this year. One caution about Ledmon, it changes exterior color depending on soil pH. At pH 7, it is gray/green similar to Charleston Gray. In ph 6 soil, it is a dark green with a bluish/gray tint.

I believe I have some Ledmon seed, although it’s been a few years since I last grew it. I can try sprouting a couple and send you the remaining seeds if it proves viable.

Sandhill will be updating their Seed list for 2024 starting after New Years on a daily basis as he works his way through the list.

I bought Ledmon from Sandhill, this year(2023).
Had a total failure of weed control…no watermelons survived.

I found the seeds, all six of them. They’re from Sandhill, packed in 2009. I took one out and am attempting to sprout it. I can send them now or wait and see if this one sprouts, although either way it doesn’t mean the remaining seeds are or aren’t viable. Message me if you prefer to communicate privately.
14 year old watermelon seed are unlikely to germinate. Have a backup plan!

Agree, but it puts me closer than I’ve ever been. I plan to check out Sandhill in the new year. Right now nothing seems to be for sail.

I talk to Glenn regularly and message with him at least weekly. He is slammed with too much to do. He has an abundance of Ledmon seed this year.
I will be checking almost daily. And thank you so much for the info. Since I got into gardening 5 years ago, I’ve been on the lookout for these seeds. They were the only watermelon my uncle would grow….and from what I remember they were SOO good. Haven’t had one since the 1980’s
