Looking for a yellow peach

Hi all. I am looking for a yellow flesh peach that is ovate with a beak. I know they exist, I just cannot find names anywhere. My google has been hijacked by the French language making it more difficult. I believe there is one called Eagles Beak? Scott did you grow it? Does it taste good? Any help appreciated.

There is Eagles Beak and Teton de Venus. The former is a very unusual peach, small with a very small seed and very tasty. It is a US variety and seems very hard to find. The latter I assume is a French variety so you may be able to get that one. Mine has not fruited (the first try the deer rubbed to death and the second one is just getting going now).

Here is Teton de Venus:

Oh I think both of these are white peaches
I don’t know of any yellow peach with a beak.

I did a quick Google search and found “FlordaKing”

and also “Flavor Rich” which apparently appears more ovate

I was so afraid of it being a white peach. My white Grosse Mignonne’ is a very old French variety that is prolific. I would like a french version of eagles beak in yellow! I’ll keep looking. Here Red Haven is everywhere along with dixie red. Do you know Amsden? Thanks for your help Scott!

Thank so much Jeremy, but I am in France. They thrive on white peaches here . Yellows are hard to fine that are good. You peach is just what I am looking for!

I found one nursery that has Suncrest . Is it a decent yellow peach?

It is considered good, but I never grew it. It is famous as it is the subject of the book Requiem Epitaph for a Peach.

It doesn’t sound as if it fares well. I finally found a site that sells rare French fruits and they have many yellow peaches but no beaks! Thank you Scott!!!

Suncrest is quite famous here in CA, which should match your growing conditions. Not having tasted it myself, I don’t know how it compares to other varieties. There is also the history of this variety that made it famous

Thank you!

Scott I have tasted the Teton de Venus here. It easily takes on water and swells. That still does not take away from its sweetness, but very drippy to eat. There is barely a hint of acid. Its still a nice peach!

suncrest is extremely good. not much of a beak though

What exactly do you mean with this?

I know amsden.
It’s not really special taste wise. But it has good leaf curl disease resistance and ripens early. If I’m not mistaken it’s an old variety from the US (1800s)
It’s one of the few peaches that do reasonably well here. (lots of leaf curl here)
It has white or yellowish white flesh.

although i think your in a better peach growing region. So likely have “better” tasting varieties as viable options.

There is an American Peach called ‘Eagle Beak’. It is interesting looking and I’ve always liked it. It has a pronounced pointy end. I was hopeing there was a European or French version. Look at the pictures in the first 2-3 posts after mine.

Oscar, this Ruby Eagle Beak Peach is from China.

thanks. Looking back i could have guessed. All the pictured and linked peaches had the point (beak) in common.
