Loquat rootstock?

Just curious to see what people here use for loquat rootstock. I think I’ve seen that quince can be used for dwarfing. Is loquat seedling also common? I’d like to start some loquat seedlings for rootstock if that is what is commonly used. Am I too late to get seeds this year? I know they ripen pretty early but don’t know exactly when the season is.

I got a small plant of Tanaka variety from one of the members here (thank you!). I think they are mostly propagated by seed but also suckers…that’s how I got mine. It’s not late for seeds, I think their season will start soon and will go possibly till June but I am not loquat expert.
In your zone 7B you will have to keep it in a pot if you want to taste the fruit. I am keeping mine only as ornamental (zone 7A). YOu can use quince or seedlings

Photinia × fraseri can be used as rootstock for loquats. It is said that cold resistance will be improved by the grafting. But I have not tried. Maybe next year I will give it a try.

Thanks for the replies. I thought the harvest season for loquat was earlier than this but glad to know it’s still going on. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them in the farmers market here, unfortunately. If anyone has a few seeds, I’d be interested.

I saw them for the first time as fresh fruit in the grocery in NJ last year. I hope to see them again as my every germination attempt failed. I encouraged by the idea they can be dwarfed on quince stock.
