If a fig is meant to be, is it a figment? or is that just my imagination?
GIF is Fig spelled backwards.
Maybe he ate too many.
The fruit has been confirmed a real variety that he just nicknamed differently. Fig actually stands for his FIGurative doctorate and the FIGurative properties of the tree.
Hows abouts yer:
Fignatic
Fig Master
Cardinal Fig
Figgin Figtastico
Figgus Maximus
Fig Fleecer
Figtitious
Fig Fudger
I’m Fig Comptroller.
Happy as a fig in mud!
His claims may have been FIGtitious but he sure FIGured out how to keeps us entertained for a long time.
Where was this confirmation? I’m curious what this one actually is. I saw another post with a hypothesis.
That’s probably the one I was thinking of. The thread was deleted so I can’t link to it but somebody showed pictures of a fig that looked exactly like the one the Fig Fudger was advertising and he guy ignored it and stopped posting right after that so I considered it implicit confirmation.
If your whole business model depended on people believing you had found the perfect fig, would you disappear right after somebody showed evidence that it was actually a known variety that nobody cared about or would you do everything in your power to address the concerns? And that was right when the figomancer was posting 10 times a day screaming in capitals that he had ALL THE EVIDENCE so it’s not like he doesn’t know how to make a post.
That thread was moved to a section of the forum called The Lounge, which not all members can see or have access to. I believe that it was @a_Vivaldi who had posted the pictures that you are referring to.
I believe LSU’s fig called ‘Tiger’ was one of the top picks for most likely to have been re-branded as “Cherry Bomb”, but I think there was another possible one mentioned too.
Compare:
And
Now, check the habit of these trees, splaying sideways very low down:
It’s not guarantee, but it seems to me extremely likely they’re the same. LSU O’Rourke and “LSU Cherry Bomb” are incredibly similar if not the same plant. Both are productive, have the same shape, have similar stripes, have a very long stem, are the same color and darken in later stages of ripening, both are thin-skinned and suffer bird and bug problems, both generally have a closed eye but can have an open eye at times, interior color is amber to pink, size is about the same, both trees are early but also continue producing fairly reliably until late season or frost, the list goes on…
And, while it’s not a bad fig, I’m probably going to get rid of mine. It spoils easily despite the closed eye and it just doesn’t taste like much.
I’m not sure they could be the same fig then as the LSU Cherry Bomb, I have read from very reliable sources, is the greatest fig ever. If you were growing one all your other fig trees would take their own lives in shame leaving long notes denouncing their very existence before the LSU Cherry Bomb’s majesty.
Your tree is a solid specimen to multigraft over though.
You’re practically writing Dr. Figtitious’ next ad for him: “Buy my secret fig rebrand. At least it’s good for grafting over”
Even if they are different, at this point if they are so similar that there is no improvement, it’s not worth the investment in an authentic certificate
