Lucy apple series?

We got in some Lucy Glow and Lucy Gem from a west coast bare-root grower. Our farm manager is into growing fruit big time and wanted to try these 2 out. I believe we got them on MM106 rootstock and the goal is to pot them up in #10 containers and grow them for one seasn staked. Then we sell #10 apple trees wholesale and retail. The Nursery I work at has been doing this for many years.

Not so thrilled about MM106 however as worried about collar rot issues in heavy clay soil. This supplier of these trees also offered them on M26 so we are going to try them on M26 next year.

I have not grown apple trees on M26 in at least 25 years but I think they would be a better choice than MM106 for most home growers.

This same fruit tree supplier DID have sweet cherries on G5 rootstock so happy we got those to pot up too. Trying their Montmorency cherry on G5 as well since we have good sales in
Wisconsin on Montmorency but it can grow really tall for home growers if they don’t vase prune them. Hard to net and pick them if real tall.

Picked up a bunch of espalier apples from this supplier too bare-root. 3 tiered with each tier a different variety. Those are getting potted up to. They look nice and much bigger than I expected.

In the past we have grown 3 tiered espalier apple trees in the field and found quite a specialty market for them. Shipped a bunch from WI all the way to Ashbury Carolina for a client. He bought a semi load of them for his estates. All 2" -3" BB trees.

In the past almost all the BB and container grown apple trees we produce have been on M7 rootstock. Not so starting next year.

Northwoods: I work at Johnson’s Nursery in SE WI. It is a 650
acre nursery. The #10 Lucy Glow and Lucy Gem
are not anticipated to be ready for sale until
October 2025 or Spring 2026. This is my 29th
year working at this nursery. If you get in the
area and want to purchase one, let me know.
Our #10 apple trees are typically 1" caliper.
They will be grown at our Jackson,WI farm
which is where my office is.

I did not intend to use this site to advertise,
so my apology to all. Just wanted to answer
                    Northwoods question.

My Lucy collection:
Rose left, Glow right.

And their newest friend, Gem. Thank you @Restoringeden for such a big lovely bare roots trees.

that was the gem i almost grabbed!!!

Does your Gem have a burgundy tint to the bark? The Glo and Rose don’t so I was surprised to see it on mine. I tried to photograph it today but it didn’t capture well.

Excited to try these varieties as well! We had a few apples on them last year but was hungry and ate them not paying attention to flavor :joy:

Will you have scions for glo apple this autumn winter?

Hey, Will you have scions for glo apple this autumn winter?

It’s under patent protection.

I don’t know Whats that about, but I ask you because gurneys sells it for expensive like 170 dollars for a tree i think so if you have it I asked if you sell cuttings

we cannot legally sell the lucy varieties because they are under patent protection. But also other places besides gurneys sell it. One green world, burnt ridge nursery, restoring eden for example. additionally im pretty sure their trees are not normally 170 dollars at gurneys, more in the 70 range.

You can not sell nor share? And you got it how, it just appeared in your garden you are suggesting ? Yes $70 for 2-4 ft 154.99 5-6ft they list it. And a cutting that you will prune probably anyway i guess $1000 to you and $109484884848498 for shipping to me from your garden, correct?

no i bought it from a nursery that has a license to propagate it like the ones i listed. I suggest if you get into plant growing you learn what a patent is. I will not ship it to you because it is illegal to propagate it.

xaviershalom, quit trying to make people look bad because they won’t respond to your request for an illegal action. You are the one who is doing something wrong.

I am surprised @XavierShalom is a regular. If so, he should have known better about patent and legality of it.

We are aware of Skilcult. He has posted and interacted with members here several times in the past.

I think Noddykitty meant Skillcult was an active member.
