Anyone order a Lucy gem to go with their Lucy glo or Lucy rose apples? I ordered one today. I hope it taste as good as the Lucy glo. The Lucy rose was a miss for me. It’s not my favorite. I have not seen any of the gem apples for sale yet like the other 2.
Is there any info on it other than yellow skin, red flesh? The Lucy website teases they’re adding more.
Found this. Supposedly yellow skinned. So if I understand this right. Lucy glow = red flesh green skin. Lucy rose = red flesh red skin. Lucy gem = red fleshed yellow skinned.
Lucy Gem™, Apple (Semi-Dwarf)
$48.00
A very new variety, this unique and beautiful apple has a yellow skin with red blush and a striking pink flesh. It is juicy and crisp with complex berry-like flavors. Bred in Washington State by Bill Howell. Lucy Gem™ is a cross between Honeycrisp and various red fleshed apple varieties that makes for a wonderful combination of flavor and color to delight apple lovers everywhere.
Pollinator required - must plant near a different variety of apple for fruit production.
Other than some probably less ripe Lucy Glos at the store having a little bit of green near the stem well, they’re definitely not green. The Lucyapple website describes them as, “Gorgeous yellow exterior pinkish-red interior that glows from within. The flavor starts tangy and finishes with a hint of sweet.”
I only found Lucy Glo/Rose at Sprout’s this year, which is quite a drive for me, none of the other grocery chains closer by have had any. ACME had some a month or two later last year. The Lucy Rose I’ve had this year was better than the ones last year. More red flesh color and flavor. Still straight sweet though compared to Lucy Glo, so not my favorite of the two. Hoping my Lucy Glo will produce this year.
The Lucy Gem descriptions don’t mention sweet or sour in the descriptions, so I’m guessing it’s more like a yellow skinned Lucy Rose. I.e. not super red on the outside, so Americans won’t want to buy it. I’m already planning to graft almost 30 trees, or I’d probably buy one.
I look forward to tasting one, reading about how they are for eating, or getting some brix info.
Thanks for jumping in. Please let us know how it goes.
Between Lucy Glo, Hidden Rose, and Redlove Odysso plus some others that don’t seem as promising, I don’t feel the need to gamble that its a winner. But if it proves as good or better than these, I’ll want to get it.
I wish I had more space in my yard! I am holding out for a lucy Glo as I know darn well how good they are. Anyone selling them besides one green world?
A Google search shows some other sites that look ready to take an order:
