Magnolia leaves: what to do?

Has anyone had success with composing magnolia leaves?

We have two 25-30’ magnolia trees that dump loads of leaves. I’ve tried composting without shredding them, and they’re essentially intact after 1 year in our composted. What I’ve read this far doesn’t seem much more encouraging even if shredded, so I’ve been sending these along in our city’s green waste bin, but this is easily filled each week, just by the magnolia leaves alone.

do you have an evergreen magnolia grandiflora? or a picture.

For us the magnolia leaves composted after a year. Mostly we used it as mulch though.
