Mango tree brown spots

Recently purchased a grafted Alphonso mango tree. Watered it with a hose for the first couple of weeks and then started with drip irrigation in the 2 following weeks. Notice the brown marks and spots that are in the leaves. Should I be worried and how can I rectify this? I was told to remove the drip irrigation and water more with a hose…

Those look like bug bites to me. Keep an eye out to see if there’s anything that’s attracted to your trees and just hanging out.

I see you are in South Africa, so it must be Spring!

I believe you are seeing two things. One is leaf-edge burn, often associated with alkalinity in water or soil. The “freckles” are likely due to fungi that attack Mango. Products containing Azoxystrobin will control this. Two alternatives are Mancozeb and to a lesser degree Myclobutanil. I apply Azoxystrobin once in the Spring time, and then again after harvest.

Will keep an eye out. I have been spraying organic insecticides with neem oil etc too

Thanks. I did spray a few days ago with this

But I will have a look at getting something like you recommended as well.

Salt burn starts at the tips and goes inward. :melting_face: my Mango trees have it.

Haven’t taken photos in a while but in my last photo, you can see it at the tips of the old leaves.

@Melon
“Salt burn” is an inaccurate term, since some salts are alkaline while others are acidic.
