Metasequoia making about ten new leaders?

My metasequoia, in its fourth year from seed, lost its leader last fall. It’s trying to make a new one, but appears to have about six to ten contenders.

It frankly has the ugliest shape I have ever seen in a DR. I hope outgrows it.

I’d pick the best and straightest one and prune out the rest.
