Meyer Lemon dropping leaves, help

I have had a Meyer Lemon Tree in this container for years. It dropped all its leaves March 2025 and now again in March 2026. It is inside until the weather is consistently above 40 degrees at night every winter. It blooms with 100s of flowers each year, often having 2 blooming periods, but has not produced fruit since winter 2024/2025. The most it has produced is 5 lemons. I use a grow light during the daytime hours. I have fertilizer that I applied in January. We live in Grand Rapids, MI.

It has possibly become rootbound. What is its history of being repotted into a bigger pot and/or pruning the roots?

…and welcome to the Forum.

my first guess is the container is way too small

Meyer lemons are very difficult to grow if they have to be moved. Pots size need to have 1/4 the volume of its canopy.

Typical Meyer lemon down 80% of its leaves seen above.

Typical Fukushu kumquat has most of its leaves.

Yes I grew one in a tall 20g it’s was over 10 year. Root prune and replenish soil often. Shaded in hot summer heat. Still looked terrible 1/4 year but flourished the rest and produced tons of flowers with only about 15 lemons. I finally gave it away.

However will never get me to give my Fukushu away. The best kumquat I’ve ever tasted. I love it. Sweet n sour candy treats.

Amy, That’s a fairly happy Meyers tree. They like a lot of food and nutrients in containers.
