Mini persimmons in 3b, Canada

Hello all,

For my first “real” harvest I was really afraid to have not enough heat to ripen my little babies. But miracles do happen! Been having pawpaw flowers for the last two years. Will 2026 be THE. Year for me? Pawpaws in 3b, Canada. How about that???

6 years old Meader persimmon tree.

Not authorized to upload a video of my pawpaw harvest. Forbidden format they say. Too bad…

huge news, did you do anything special to protect this in the winter?

I’m a die hard Darwinist. You survive or you die:: your choice… Absolutely no winter protection of any kind but the seedling was put in my greenhouse for 3 consecutive years before going under the grass!

i have a lone persimmon grown from seed thats grown a little over a meter in height in 2 years outdoors in a raised bed. the other ones started in pots died despite some snow covering them. im going to buy a grafted one to plant nearby for its partner next spring. so far its been hardy but we havent had much real cold here in about 4 years.

Is it a Meader specific trait to have those green calyxes? The persimmons at John Gordon’s were like that too. I’m not used to seeing that trait. I’m used to seeing them brown.

Congrats on the fruit! Thats amazing for 3b. Are they astringent, or fully ripe?

Hello; Yes they are still Astringent taken from the tree but after 2 days on the counter they are fully ready to eat: apricot with almond taste and a hint of honey. Miam! As we say in French.
