At my children’s school is what looks like a miniature plum tree that has been shaped into a bush. I’ve never seen anything like it before and was curious if anyone else has. It even had one plum on it this year.
I’m wondering if it could be used with an interstem like Adara to creat some ultra dwarfing fruit trees. Could be a fun experiment.
Many plums and even apples do well being pruned into bushes or hedges, but that doesn’t mean that they’re dwarfef by nature, in Europe and all across Russia myrobalan plum is coming done like this, but those trees can get 30 feet tall if you let them.
It seems like that’s a chicksaw plum, and not particularly tall, but not so short either.
It had many blossoms on it during the spring time, but only one plum. I would say it’s pretty small. Probably three feet tall. I’d have a hard time believing this tree could get very big.
I feel like my neighbor has this same variety from what I assume is rootstock sprouted from a flowering cherry in her yard. There is a single fruit that look like this on it. I will have to check if it is still there.
