Please take pictures of the trees if you can to help document the parent(s). I’ve got a whole collection of photos of each plant I collect from. I collect fruit in ziplock bags then choose an arbitrary name for each tree and write the name on the bag I collect the fruit in and take a picture of both the bag and the tree to help keep records.

Seeing some serviceberry plants growing like this and still producing fruit makes me wonder if they’d do well in pots. Not sure if this is one of the species that doesn’t grow big or if its growth is restricted by lack of soil. This is one of the trees(?) I collected some fruit from.

Has anyone tried fruit from any Osteomeles species, such as Ūlei, or the Chinese Emperor Plum? I hear they are edible but didn’t see too many specifics. I’m interested in crossing them with firethorn (there’s a couple of Pyracantha x Osteomeles hybrids already known) to try and get something that can grow in a wide variety of places like firethorns can but have decent tasting fruit unlike firethorns. Or maybe just breeding for more cold tolerance and better fruit without involving firethorns. Might make a separate thread for this

You have any pic or link about it? Thanks!

Here are some pictures of Osteomeles anthyllidifolia, ūlei, in Hawaii

Thanks. I will see if i find.

The all the plants in the genus Osteomeles have compound leaves like that. And the fruit varies from white to purple.

Chinese Emperor plum is grown as a bonsai. Other than that I don’t know too much

A white fruit would be neat.

Now that I think about it, are there any apples with white skin? Looks like there are. Like the ghost apple

I have a white crab apple too that I was thinking of using in breeding.
