For anyone who may enjoy Moon Drop Grapes, it appears that One Green World is now offering them. 13 currently still in stock at time of this post.
Moon Drops is still under patent. It could be Witch Fingers which is very similar to Moon Drops?
Right. I thought so too, so it was a surprise to me to see their social media page post an advertisement for it.
I’ve emailed them. Lets see what they say.
its possible theyre selling under patent, they sell other patented fruit. but if they are they need to label it better
Yes, that is a possibility. I have Witch Fingers. No grapes yet, rather fussy grower ![]()
Wow!!! This is by far our favorite grape and hasn’t been in stores for maybe 2 years. Was marketed as Sapphire here. So. Good. I can’t wait to hear how it grows. Really wanted to plant it last year until learning it wasn’t available.

AI claims that its the same
Excellent! Glad theyre the real deal
I missed it
I guess that means I don’t have to find the place for it.
Maybe?
When I first asked AI. I was told Moon Drop and Sweet Sapphire are the same but not Witch FInger. Then I asked again and was told they are all the same. I challenged AI and was told the following :
1. The First “Witch Finger” (Variety: IFG Twelve)
The original grape launched as “Witch Fingers” was a chili-pepper shaped grape with a pointy tip. It was a cross between a Mediterranean grape and an American labrusca variety.
2. The “Moon Drop” (Variety: IFG Six)
Later, the breeder released a tubular/cylinder shaped grape with a “dimple” at the end. This is the variety officially known as Sweet Sapphire and sold by The Grapery as Moon Drops.
Why the confusion?
When “Moon Drops” became a massive hit, the “Witch Finger” brand name was so popular that many people (and even some grocery stores) started calling both varieties “Witch Fingers.”
The Verdict:
-
Biologically: They are technically different varieties (IFG Twelve vs. IFG Six).
-
Commercially: They are often treated as the same thing because the Moon Drop effectively replaced the original Witch Finger in most stores due to its better shelf life and flavor.
AI still insists Sweet Sapphire and Moon Drop are the same, just different marketing name. OGW says they are different. Moon Drop patent expires 2031 according to AI
The ones in your picture do not appear to have any dimples. I think they are Black Lady Finger. The Moon Drop grapes I buy from Sams Club have dimples. I don’t see any dimples in your picture. I have a Black Lady Finger, but they are hard to grow, struggling. Black Lady Finger is not patented.
