Mulberry seedlings 2026

That would be a great choice. True Morus nigra would not be hardy for you.

Being Morus Alba, does not mean that your mulberries will be white, it means that is from the Morus Alba species or even mostly Alba hybrids and could be white, pink, red, people, or black.

Yes, I know. These seeds were specificaly advertised as M. nigra.

I understand you, but unfortunately seeds are a dirty business, they know you can’t figure out if you were cheated soon enough to significantly affect their business.

I’ve even seen Illinois Everbearing categorized as Morus nigra, so it’s just bad categorization.

Even the crappy little ‘Dwarf Everbearing’ mulberry that I sometimes see for sale at the big box stores - which is unmistakably an M.alba, based upon every visible feature - is often labeled as Morus nigra.

I received scions this spring, from another mulberry enthusiast, of a selection named ‘Nigregra’, which is reputedly a M.nigraXalba hybrid, created using colchicine (presumably on the alba parent?) No fruit yet, and it mostly looks like a M.alba with really big leaves, at this point. If it survives winter, deer, groundhogs, perhaps I’ll get fruit within a couple of years.
