Where do you get all these varieties?
Fortunately i have many friends…
I’m wondering if you want another?! I have a couple of unique varieties i could offer … well nothing that exciting but ??
Hi! Of course i want! We can see it during winter…
Single lone apple on my 20 ft plus tree, Sam’s Green. Many years has hundreds of pounds of apples, some years only 40 or 50 pounds. This year the worst in over a decade. Anyone know why? I didn’t prune nearly as heavily last winter … but still some pruning.
How was the last year’s harvest?
Regardless of biannual fruiting due to extreme fruit set in previous years, I’ve noticed this with some less promiscuous varieties growing in isolated locations (forest homesteads abandoned and pruned sporadically since WW2). In years with short blooming periods or frequent frosts around blooming time they will have no fruit for no apparent reason due to misalignment with their pollinator(s), while the rest of apples in the clearing bear like crazy…
It was well below average. But acceptable since i had heavily pruned the tree winter of 22-23. The crop was huge in 2020 but late in the year getting ripe with the first snows (6000 ft elevation). Then 2021 was light but still plenty. 2022 was great again. Thinking back 2018 i think was phenomenal. Then 2020, 2022 so yeah kinda biannual, but this was the worst year in the last 12.
You mentioned bloom time - it never bloomed. Just leafed out, major growth of greenery.
How do they taste? Can you compare them to Golden Russet or Rnette Grise du Canada?
Hi. Golden Russet i didn’t try yet but regarding Reinette Gris its sweeter. Last year brix was 15.
Those look amazing. Hows the crunch? Lol they just look really really crunchy to me.
These look so much like my Reinette Zabergau apples.
Its not… this is a local variety. Its earlier and flavor is diferent.
