Posting this here because I know some of you experts can give me some good advice. Enjoy and please comment!
Not bad. My concerns are that given the width of that pile it will freeze before warming up. Also, because it’s so close to the fence (if it’s not made of vinyl) you will promote rotting in the fence because of the moisture the pile will retain.
I made a worm bin for my step-daughter’s science project 6 years ago. First couple years I had red wigglers, but after a drying out I supplemented them with common worms and night rawness and it’s been great since. I just 2-3 weeks ago, took out almost a foot of castings and refilled it with greens/Browns while they were available.
I find that 5 cubic feet, not packed, of undigested organic matter ends up as 1 1/2 - 2 cups of castings tops.
Newspaper is a great source of Browns for vermicomosting as it holds just the right amount of moisture.
You will find that having the bin there will greatly condition the soil in that spot. Worms will come up into the plié and pull organic material and nutrients back into the soil.
Best of luck with it.
