My great grandmother's fig tree

My mother is down in Ocracoke for the week and just visited my great grandmother’s house, which has been there for a very long time (at least 90 yrs). Ocracoke is known for its productive fig trees, and they have been on my great grandmothers property for decades. My mom and aunt say they remember this fig from their childhood. Who knows if it’s the same one, but it’s looking pretty healthy!

Did you ever find out what was the variety?

Beautiful fig and a great story to go along with it!

Not sure what variety that one is, but supposedly most Ocracoke figs are either brown turkey or Celeste. They’re prolific on the island. There’s a fig festival every year.

It does look like English Brown Turkey, and very old with short internodes.
