I am currently having an issue with one of the Black Tartarians that I have already posted about and I am having an issue with the Contender peach that I will post about later. I also planted 4 rhubarb root stocks last year that never sent up any shoots. Looked for them this year and there was no trace of them left. I currently live in Texas and commute up to my place in Michigan twice a year. I have family there that take care of the fertilizing and fungus and insect spraying regimen for me. I am planning to add a couple more Filberts of different varieties because the two I currently have apparently don’t have enough bloom time overlap for pollination. I am also planning on adding a couple apricot trees.
Thank You, I am having fun with it. I have planted some with recommended spacing and some with 3 in 1 high density planting. There are so many different fruits and varieties I want to try so I have been researching grafting so I can try grafting multiple varieties on the same tree. I have 5 acres to work with, but since I am having to rely on family to care for things for now I am trying to keep everything close (not to spread out). Once I move back up there I plan on adding a field of 50 or so Blueberries, some black berries and strawberries. For now I am working on getting the trees going so hopefully they will be fruiting by the time I am ready to move back. The two Asian pear trees are ordered and will be delivered here in Texas. I plan on putting them in big pots that I can later take with me to Michigan. They are both dwarf trees. Once they are established I would like to try grafting Korean Giant onto one and Hosui on the other if that can be done and make them into 2 in 1 trees. I want to try bud grafting to add more varieties to my peach trees and maybe some whip or cleft grafting to add varieties of apples I don’t currently have to some of the existing apple trees.
Holy smokes thats a lot of work in one year. Nice job man! I’m new also but welcome! Everyone is way nice and it’s awesome having all of the knowledge in one spot to help if needed. There is also a lot of interesting topics to read on.
LOL, yeah I never do anything half way. I’ve been doing a lot of reading. So far all of my trees are doing well except the one cherry tree and the one peach tree. I started separate threads for each of those hoping to get some feedback from those more experienced on what to do with them. So far I am getting a significant number of views on them, but not much input/opinions to help me decide how to help them if they can be helped.
