Could be. I had not thought about microbes in soil converting acetate back into carbonate.
Calcium acetate is much more water soluble than calcium carbonate though. So in the form of acetate, calcium can move downward or horizontally, effectively lowering the calcium content and pH locally, where you applied the vinegar.
