A friend of a friend was tearing down vines to make way for a barn. I rescued the “pinot” vines but 2 yrs in a row now, the white grapes do not look pinot to me. They are moderately loose clustered, seedless, medium oval size, and sweet with a 20+ brix. My other “pinot” vine has small, round berries w high seed content and dusky yellow/gray color.
Anyone have grapes like the picture and know the variety?
Grape vines are exceptionally difficult to identify based on the appearance of the fruit. You can certainly rule some things out, but you’re unlikely to be able to get a definitive answer based on cluster appearance alone. That said, Pinot has small tight clusters of small round berries, and what you have has oval berries which appear to be large and on a large loose cluster. There is no question it’s not Pinot. Most types with oval berries are table types. If good leaf pics were available you could also determine if it was likely pure vinifera or a interspecific hybrid which would enable you to narrow the possibilities down a little more.
