Name this blood Orange

Anyone who knows blood oranges- which one makes small oblong fruit with thin skin? At my grocery store this week, and all of them were oblong. All I know is it’s “blood Orange” from USA. Doesn’t taste like Moro, which is the only blood Orange that comes with a specific name on the label. A little sour and grapefruit-y but also some indescribable yum in there.

Easy to google blood oranges. There are 3-4 varieties, last time I checked.

I guess I’m not understanding the link as I can’t find a description of their moro just available citrus to purchase. It looks and tastes different than the Moro we normally get. Only wondering because I am trying to decide which one to purchase and this is interesting.

  1. Do not judge the flavor of fruit from a store 3,000 miles from the source.
  2. Do not attempt to grow Blood Orange in Maryland unless you have a $100k greenhouse and can afford the $400/month utility bills during your Fall, Winter, and Spring. There are plenty of fruits you can grow there which we cannot grow in CA citrus climates.

The link is of the grower which is tagged on the fruit. The only blood orange they sell is Moro, which makes them Moro. But fruits will vary greatly from season to season etc making them vary wildly in flavor and shape due to many factors.

I won’t however discourage you from growing whatever you want. Some things will be easier and some things will be a challenge which may not be worth the effort. I personally don’t grow any blood oranges, so not sure how worth it they would be.

Oh, thank you for explaining that!! I never looked closely enough to see the grower listed on the food tags. Great to know for learning more about what I’m buying.
