Named variety Aronia & Serviceberry (Saskatoon) hardwood cuttings

I’m interested in rooting hardwood cuttings of these. Does or will anyone have any available?

Any varieties in particular?

No varieties in particular. I’m still learning more about them. I’d prefer varieties that are best eating qualities and thrive in south central MN zone 4b.

Nevermind. I discovered Honeyberry USA. I’ll probably just order plants from them since they are “local” to me in MN.

I think they might be seedlings? Though they might mostly be clones if I’m remembering the aronia breeding thread correctly.

Besides the obvious, is there a difference between seedlings and clones?

Yes clones are usually cultivars with known positive characteristics like heavy production. Seedlings are unknown how well they will do , when and how many blooms is unknown. Taste and ripening times not known most plants from Honeyberries USA sells mostly clones of named cultivars.

I love HBUSA. I’ve gotten stuff from them multiple times (no aronia tho) and always been happy with my plants.

Serviceberry seedlings aren’t guaranteed to be the same as their mother although it’s common for tetraploid serviceberries (which are common) to have produce a fairly large number of seeds that are identical to the mother genetically. But there tends to be a fraction that are sexually produced and thus will have variable traits. while clones (referring to plants propagated without involving seeds) are pretty much guaranteed to be the same
