The first thing up is a question. My daughter lives at my old home place and my there is a fruit tree that produces fruit as shown. The tree/bush is about 20 feet tall at most and has many small trunks. My mom has died and we have no idea what this could be. The fruit taste slightly astringent when not quite ripe but sweet when ripe. Must not be poison cause I am still here. Any help on what this might be will be greatly appreciated.
They look like cornelian cherry to me.
Goumi or autumn olive.

Definitely goumi.
C. Mas has very differently skinned fruit and leaves.
Autumn olives are smaller and rounder.
In my opinion goumi is the best of the three, though my own c. mas has not yet produced.

These have the distinctive silver speckling of elaeagnus. Goumi and autumn olive are elaeagnus; cornelian cherry is a dogwood.

That’s my answer as well.
Thank you so much for the answer. This forum rocks. I am sure I will have more questions as I try to find some tasty plants to fill the voids in my little spot of heaven. I am going to try to cultivate a Goumi as well as other fruits down here in Mississippi. Only going to plant those that taste good or smell real good.
