Hi Christine,
I believe you are looking for @ross. Here is the post where he describes a fig giveaway, which I assume is what you are referring to: http://growingfruit.org/t/smith-cutting-giveaway-my-first-greenhouse/8325
Christine! I sent you a PM on here. Check them in the top right hand corner.
Have you gotten my address? So I can continue with pay pal $ ?
Christine, if you click on Ross’ emticon, a pop up will display with a “Message” button. You can then send Ross a private message to communicate with him.
Tips for growing a fig:
- Place in ground or pot.
2). Check back every few weeks to make sure it’s still there. Say “hi”. - Wait until fruit is ripe. Take fruit. Eat it.
Ok, I’m oversimplifying a little but honestly it’s pretty hard to kill a fig. No worries. You’ll have to get some tips for winterizing in SEPA, but otherwise, your Fig should do well. One of the easiest things to grow. I’m glad you won and hope you enjoy your new fig tree.
The only warning I’ll give is that fig trees can be habit forming…You have one, and then next time you look up, you have five or ten…
I’m from Philly burbs. No fig tree. Still working on a cutting. Ask me in a few years again
Bob knows figs. There are many varieties that will be hardy in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Bob can tell which ones from his experiences in zone 6b Connecticut and I’m sure from his overall worldly experience with them.
For me in zone 5b IL. ‘Marseilles Black VS’ is one I will be planting next year and protecting heavily during winter. Last winter I bought cuttings on ebay of ‘White Triana’ that rooted for me. I’m going to give both of these a try, in-ground and up against my home’s foundation.
