New member on the Mizzen Peninsular

Thankyou for allowing me to join the group. So so happy to have a forum where being a gardening nerd is normal. I am a botanist. Passionate about nature. I also trained and worked in garden design. I’ve always added some edibles to gardens but am now excited to grow my own food forest! I’ve got mini orchards dotted around, but due to starting the build on a house extension and finding that we were building onto a 6ft deep peat filled hole, I now have huge piles of peaty soil piled up in my small field ready to be planted.
Located in West Cork ireland on the South West peninsular about 1km in from the sea shore
Looking forward to joining in!

Welcome aboard! Such a lush and lively place your country of Ireland is. And I envy some of the interesting apples you folks have. Enjoy the forum. I’d say it has a great collection of posters so knowledgeable in some many areas.

Btw. What edibles have you tried or wish to try? I have all the garden design talent of a billy goat. That is my wife’s skill…lol

Curious if you have the dwarf fruit shrubs for pots and containers. Like a blueberry with the traits of a boxwood. Or step-over fruit tree espalier.

Awesome, welcome Janey! I recently moved to South Co. Dublin and am loving it here. Btw there is another member from West Cork, Casper aka @nosummer. Best of luck in your fruit growing.

I haven’t been able to start growing trees yet but will hopefully soon. I will mostly do apples to start, hopefully grafting them once my household items arrive (grafting items).
