Normal growth pattern for Miss Kim persimmon?

This year I noticed that my branches on one my 2 Miss Kim persimmons are all pointing directly up while the form of the rest of the tree is generally bushy and low to the ground. Is this normal? Should I prune out the upward growth in the fall?

You can top it off then your tree will make more lateral branches to make a nicer form next Spring.

ya, thats what I’m thinking I’ll do.

It just looks like such an odd growth pattern.

Suggest wait until spring just as buds start swelling, branches can be easily bent without breaking to train and obtain a full circle pattern. Tie them in place until you are well into the growth season and then remove ties. You can tip prune each lateral limb to force more lateral growth along each branch to fill in the circle. Young branches are easily punch grafted to fill in empty spaces!
