Nursery recommendation for Womack Pecan nursery

I can give a wholehearted recommendation for Womack pecan nursery as one I would unhesitatingly order from. Why? I contacted Larry Womack by phone about 3 weeks ago and asked if there is any way he can fix me up with a Seneca tree. Look up the history and Seneca is a far northern adapted variety which should fill some gaps in varieties to grow for Illinois, parts of Nebraska, Iowa, and other northern fringe states where pecan can be successfully grown. He told me that his trees were grafted on larger rootstock with the purpose of producing scionwood, in other words, too big to safely transplant. But! He was willing to cut a few sticks of scionwood and mail them to me. He feels the variety is more “niche” than most of the trees he propagates. Short version, scions arrived today and I plan on having a couple of Seneca trees in the spring

I’ve liked Womacks nursery for years. They are one of a relatively small number of nurseries that are still family run and that still do the vast majority of their own plant propagation, rather than just reselling stuff to the public that they bought from wholesale nurseries. To me, that part matters.

While looking at their website I noticed they sell pecan oil. They say it is better than olive oil for cooking and a good replacement for butter. Anybody ever try it?

I’ve used pecan oil about 25 years ago. It is expensive, but a very good cooking oil.

I bought my Kanza pecan tree from Womack and it’s been very healthy. I’ll definitely buy from them again in the future!
