Hey Friends. I want to plant a nut orchard. Will black walnut negatively affect pecans, oaks, chestnuts, hickories, or yellowhorn?
Hickory/pecan and walnut are first cousins. Both produce juglone though pecan produces very little. I would still plant them separate from each other so that pollination is effective. I don’t know for certain re chestnut and yellowhorn being sensitive to juglone but would plant them as far from black walnut as possible. Most of the reason for separating them is because of the way each is harvested.
