Tony,
How big is the pot for your apricot? I am learning about fruit tree in pot.
I think it is in a ten gallon pot. I will let it blooms indoor this way so It can avoid the late frost.
Tony
I did this one year with my FLavor King and i had zero fruit set. I had no pollinator.
Is your garage that warm? My pots in my garage are frozen.
It is 49 degree outside tomorrow plus the four cars giving off heat from the engine that make it warm. I thought cots are self-fruitul. If not then I will cut a branch of my sweet pit apricot and put it in a vase and let it blooms and I will do hand pollination.
Tony
Some apricots are self-fruitful, but you still need either bees, or pollinate by hand. Orangered is not self fruitful, so you need a pollinator, and since your tree is indoors, you will need to pollinate it by hand.
Or he might get Thai apripeppers if he does nothing…JK.
That is what i tried but i think i was too late…by the time i got the flowers to bloom my FK had been opened for awhile. So nothing set.
I got some Chinese Sweet Pit Apricot branches in a vase and hopefully they both will bloom at the same time for hand pollination.
Tony
Rob,
Update on the OR crossed with Chinese Sweet Pit. Lots of fruitlets.
Foster peach crossed with Orangered apricot.

That is awesome. I have got to try that next year. I’d probably do it later then you due to our climate differences…maybe shoot for early march bloom… Definitely a good way to get a perfect cross…without any bees or other pollen floating around.
I have leaves pushing on some of my container trees i brought in…mine are just ones i grafted (chip budded) that i’m growing out…maybe next year i’ll have them in here blooming.
Looking good, Tony. Will you use some sort of shade cloth to transition them to full sun outside? I’m curious because a few of the persimmons I had growing inside last spring didn’t do so well with a sudden move outside, even though I did it before a week of clouds and rain.
That is awesome…nope…nothing happening inside. I got mild and 71.4F in the kitchen right now…everything seems happy. Outside…not so much.
Keep us updated.
When moving stuff outside…i’d leave it shaded somewhat to begin with–especially once we move into April-May-June (stronger sun)…maybe let it get morning sun and then be shaded the rest of the day…probably in a protected location. I’ve been moving my tomatoes in and out whenever the temps are above 45F or so… I’ll be moving everything out this weekend if the forecast holds.
I am planning to move it into my sun room in a week or so and let it be until the Fruits ripe so I don’t have to worry about pests and coons.
Tony
Here are my Orangered apricot crossed with the Chinese sweet pit now. At this rate, I may catching up with Fruitnut green house Fruits.
Tony
You’re ahead of mine. It’s still cold at night in the greenhouse. Warm nights in a house really speeds up maturity.
I grafted Orangered to my Blenheim last year. It didn’t show any signs of setting flower buds. I just don’t have enough chill hours for it.
That’s probably true. Mine sets flower buds but most abort or don’t set. There are others even harder to manage. Montrose doesn’t set flower buds and leafs out way late. I’m cutting it down.
