Ordering from England's

Does anyone have tips for ordering from England’s Orchard and Nursery? Their website doesn’t appear to be updated regularly, and it’s difficult to find lists for currently available fruit trees, as well as prices for scions, trees, shipping, etc. I have the 2021/22 scion list, but I’m hesitant to bother Cliff with additional questions. He must get inundated with emails.

When I visited there this past September, he mentioned having had a health issue come up, and that he would not be offering grafted trees for sale in the coming year, but would continue with scions and seeds. That’s my understanding—you might want to confirm if you were wanting something from him.

Thank you, that’s good to know. Wish I lived close enough to visit–being able to see the fruit diversity in person would be amazing! I’ll just try contacting him directly.

Just call him. Cliff is a great guy and super responsive. He’d be happy to speak on the phone.

Cliff is a fine person and an excellent resource. I can confirm he had health problems. He also got hit hard by the last winter blast. He may be back in Fall 2022.
In the meantime he has a terrific collection of scions. He should be finished with an updated list
in December. Feel free to ask him for something interesting for your zone.

I hope Cliff solved whatever it was and is back to good health.

If he got no emails or no calls he’d be doubly poor…so I’m sure your communication must be important.
Go for it. Most Kentucky folks are nice people.

I really believe he likes people to come and tour his orchard. A bit off the highway but you get to see some trees you may not know existed.

If we’re ever in the area again for a bourbon tour, I’ll definitely add it to the itinerary! :slightly_smiling_face:

This is an old thread but i want to mention when in doubt ask Cliff @KYnuttrees. I have always found him very helpful. He takes the time to answer emails as he can get to them. I like to order scions from him and he knows that. Im not the type to ever waste his time. I also keep it short and to the point and let him know what i want and what its for. @tonyOmahaz5 speaks very highly of Cliff as does Dax and many others on the forum. I ordered something very rare from him last year and he delivered as usual. This year i also have a list of scions i want to get from him i emailed him about recently. I highly recommend him for prices and his unusual inventory http://nuttrees.net/ . Many people ask if i prefer one nursery over another. I do not prefer one over another in general , i like them all for the things they offer that are unique. If i was to be totally transparent i would tell you i have orders in with more than i would like to confess to eg. https://www.treepeony.com/ , https://39thparallel.com/ , Concord Grape Vines For Sale | Double A Vineyards, Wholesale - Hartmanns Plant Company, etc…All that said there are nurseries none of us will deal with and we will all tell you who they are. Cliff is a great guy to deal with.

Seconded. I have always found them to be quick to respond, and they will always send you out the current list for potential scion if you don’t appear to be working with the most recent one. This is likely a great time to be reaching out regarding scion as they won’t necessarily harvest the less common wood unless they know there is a demand.

I think some people are scared off by the lack of the usual “buy” button, cart, check out, etc. But Cliff is the real deal. He is a voracious hunter for new varieties, if it’s a new persimmon or pawpaw or jujube or nut then Cliff probably has it! I often get scions from him for this reason. This spring I’m getting a bunch of hybrid persimmon scions to see what will stick on my big KSDS-infected rootstock.

@scottfsmith

Cliff responded to me the same day on my questions. I know he can’t always do that, but i appreciate that kind of excellent service. Always a good experience!

I’ve ordered many times from England’s, and it’s been a smooth transaction every time! Email him what you want and your address, he sends you an invoice, you pay it and then the items ship. Easy!

All of that is coming at some point.
