Over wintering onions - zone 6

Has anyone ever overwintered Candy onions in zone 6? I have a bunch of starts that I stuck in a fridge a few months ago. I’m wonder how they would do if I plant them out now and overwinter.

Maybe it would be alright to plant them now but according to @BG1977, onions like cool weather. I suspect that he is right.

Yes, they do like cool weather. I was thinking of covering them with cover cloth to hopefully keep the temp. down. Thanks for helping me think it through.

They should do fine, grow some this fall, be nice green onions in the spring. They wont make bulbs, but will go to seed. Pull them in the spring if you don’t want seeds.

Luckily for me in 9a onions are happy with the cold we usually get in winter. Temps no lower than the 20’s and all the winter veg here is fine.

From what I read below 20 won’t be tolerated for long for onions.
