Are you looking for different types of figs? I have so many if that’s what you are looking for. I highly recommend the type called White Marseilles. It’s also called Oregon Prolific, and boy is it. The brebas are out of this world and taste like brown sugar.
Or maybe a citrus? I have something called Myrtle leaf chinotto that’s fantastic. Just a gorgeous looking plant and makes quite a bit of fruit.
How about a passionfruit? These came to me from a guy in Missouri and they are two distinct seedlings that make a ton of fruits. So cool looking. These really don’t seem to mind the short season here. They come up in May and get massive before dying back.
Did the Stella make a prolific main crop for you too? How is the Stella taste compared to a desert king? From pics of the inside and outside of the fruit I can’t tell them apart.
I have a hard time believing this tree was mislabeled, because when I worked at that nursery the supplier of fig trees was known for their efficiency. But obviously mistakes can happen to anyone, and according to what people are telling me the desert king just can’t make a main crop like this tree is producing.
So be it. Whatever it is I’m very happy with the production. Honestly I was hoping someone would tell me that’s for sure desert king and the brebas don’t start for several years. I’ll go ahead and get a desert king cutting this winter and see how it compares.
I was just inspecting the tree and that’s kind of extreme on the thin side. I cloned it last year and this is one of the leaves on the younger version.
I didn’t really treat mine well, its like 2 in a hole next to a guomi that is bigger. In the over 10 years I’ve had it I’ve gotten a handful of ripe figs from it. Was going to pull it, still probably will. But a couple of years ago the couple figs I got from it were pretty good if I recall.
I was asked via private message, but I’ll clarify here. There is no cost to attend the fig & misc. fruit tasting at my nursery this coming Saturday (Oct 5th at noon). That sounds awesome! I wish it was just a hair closer to me than 3.5 hours. 7 hours is a lot of driving to try some figs.
I love the concept. Inspires me to put something together around here. I see so many fig trees growing in this area, but I still rarely meet people who are enthusiasts. So many people have never even had a tree ripened fig. Most people’s experience with figs is limited to fig newtons.
I found this to be true even where I grew up in Southern California. My ex girlfriend didn’t think she liked fresh figs because the ones she’d had from the grocery store were insipid. I took here to a mission fig tree in San Clemente one afternoon and converted her in one bite.
That seems to be the likeliest. I’m curious to
learn more about this Stella type of fig. I thought I’d been eating desert kings. These really are very tasty, and HUGE! Some are as large as a tennis ball. They are my second favorite of the varieties I’m growing here.
Like the desert king, Stella must also be a San Pedro, right? So evidently not all San Pedro figs need the wasp to ripen the main crop? Evidently not, because of Stella is a San Pedro, it is cranking out the September crop.
I hope this tree eventually starts making some brebas too. Though I don’t know what I’ll do with twice the amount. As it is many rot and fall to the ground. And that’s even after I make loaded or preserves mixed with Concord grapes, which is absolutely fantastic, I also give many away, yet the tree makes too many for me to keep up with.
Stella is bifera and not san pedro. It is stingy making breba crop - maybe 1-2 here and there. Im glad it is producing well for you. It is too late for me and I got rid of it.

I don’t have shareable fruit right now since most of the neighborhood kids take me unpicked berries but i can bring cuttings?
Lost the labels when we moved but the varieties are:
[ ] Purple Possum
[ ] Panama
[ ] McCain
[ ] Red Rover
[ ] Hybrid from seed
The hybrid is either a purple possum or a purple possum × red rover hybrid. I grew it from seed after pollinating it myself. Didn’t plant the seed for over 3 years but one finally sprout and i didn’t forget about it so it didn’t get weeded. Was growing indoors in an aerogarden for the first year and it’s almost 2 years old so it should start fruiting soon.
The others were small starts from Logees that I’ve also been growing for almost a year now.
I was talking about growing bananas here in SeaTac with someone and i finally found the photo from the last time i was over at the house with bananas in SeaTac!
This was one of the first times i had seen it fruit so i took a photo of it. The second time was in 2022, maybe last year possibly? Don’t remember it too well but i didn’t care to take a photo of it cause i thought it was normal at the time.
