I use this parafilm. It is made by the Parafilm M people but it called parafilm nursery grafting tape. I buy it by the box (which is great because my puppy has destroyed two rolls this year) and the cost is not that much. It wraps well and sticks well. I prefer the 1/2” instead of the 1” but it’s harder to find. It comes 10 rolls to the box which should last me a looong time if I keep them locked away from Louie.

I say “rubber bands”, but I actually use thin bits of rubber sold as “grafting rubbers”.
I’m pretty sure I bought mine from AM Leonard, in a grafting kit

I found an old roll of 1" parafilm that was pretty chewed up/dirty from riding around in a bag with tools. Absolutely would not stretch, always breaking from the edges. So I sliced off the mauled sides and it stretches again, not as good as a new roll but perfectly usable.
The takeaway should be to protect your rolls of parafilm from getting dinged up though, I am what you might call a professional and am a good enough carver that I won’t cut myself.
