Passiflora incarnata-Maypop Passion Flower

So are the seeds a cross of the two? Sounds like you may have great seeds.

The thought occurred to save some. It would be nice to discover one with the tropical flavor from the Florida maypop with the sweet, tartness of the California maypop, but I just do not have the space.

I’m wondering if any of the improved/selected maypops out there have that combo already.

I’m interested in some of your seeds if willing to send some. I need to start a fence line of fruiting passiflora, last one’s I had were all the same nursery offered clone. Lots of growth, hollow fruit. Your cross sounds good and fertile genetics.

DM me your address. I have a dozen or so still ripening up so I am sure I can send you some.

Tried, it says your profile is hidden. You may get more people wanting that cross, also!

No kidding about the flower variability – look at this joker on my hybrid passiflora

looks like P Incense

It’s a similar hybrid, but not quite the same. Incense is an F1 hybrid of P. incarnata and P. cincinnata (from what I remember anyway, don’t quote me). These are a few generations down the line, have a bit of P. edulus in them, and are tetraploid.

They took a little while to get going, but now are doing very well. Very floriferous, and pollination seems to be pretty good. I’ve yet to have any fruits ripen, but once I do I’ll be sure to post. I counted 19 fruit on my 4 first-year vines the other week.

I’ll try to pick some wild P. incarnata once these hybrids ripen, would be very interesting to compare size, weight, aril size, flavor, etc.

Hybrid passiflora. A partially ripe one and an unripe for comparison. The partially ripe one was very good. A complex flavor, if less fragrant than normal on account of the ripeness. The juice was sweet and the pulp very sour. Looks like I’m getting good pollination. Hoping to have better ripening next year.
