Passion Fruit Won't Fruit

My Red Rover Passion Fruit vine has grown considerably in its second year. It is flowering profusely right now but just does not set fruit. I’ve tried hand pollinating many times but no luck. I thought this variety is self fruitful. I’ve only fertilized it once in spring and I don’t water it at all. It keeps growing under the dry heat. Maybe the neighbors are watering it,

Red Rover
Originated in Lincoln Acres, Calif. by Patrick Worley. Kahuna X Brazilian Golden. Medium to large, roundish fruit. Rind an attractive clear red color. Sweet, notably rich flavor with tart overtones,. Good for eating out of hand or juicing. Vine very vigorous, compact and self-fertile.

Is it possible you got some ther variety by mistake?

@bleedingdirt, do you know if this was cutting grown or sprouted from seed? Seedlings will not grow true to type. Further, Pat and Bob bred Red Rover and Fredericks using a PGR, so there is wide variety among seedlings.

How sure are we that the variety is actually self-fruitful? That’s the kind of thing that seems to be wrong a lot.

Positive. I knew them back in the day. Bob is still a member of the local CRFG.

I bought it from Summerwinds nursery and it was grown by Monterey Bay Nursery. I believe it has got to be a cutting grown variety.

Water in a little bone-meal at the base of the plant?

I had a chance to catch up with Bob Holtzinger today at the CRFG NC San Diego meeting. He said he seriously doubts there are any Red Rover cuttings available anywhere, and certainly all the plants offered by nurseries are seedlings.
