Pawpaw Leaves Yellowing Now

What could cause leaves on 8 year old pawpaw to turn yellow Aug 1 in zone 7? it’s starting at bottom and working up the tree. Tree is otherwise healthy, has a few fruits on it. Tree next to it is dark green, not a trace of yellowing. Just when I was starting to think pawpaws were carefree…

Not enough rain?

May be it, thanks. I’ve been out of the country and don’t know if we’ve had rain. To be safe I just put a soaker hose on the tree and will see if it greens up. A wider mulch circle probably would help too.

Greetings; Searching for ‘yellowing pawpaw leaves’ I came across your post from this time last year. I have two younger trees, second leaf for me, one with leaves turning yellow from the bottom up and the other one looks great. The greener one does get a little less sun than the other but I have shades on both to block some afternoon sun. Other than that they are treated identically. They are in mediocre, rocky soil for pawpaws. How did your situation turn out? Did you solve the problem?

The tree in question is fine now so the problem must have cured itself. Was probably either not enough or too much water, not sure which, but here in August probably not enough.

Same thing happened to my two young pawpaws recently, too. We have a drought. I thought I had water them often but may not be enough.

It is also true that the one with more sun has leaves that are yellower.
