That’s vascular damage. I’ve had some like that after the late April cold shot. If it was me I would prune above that healthy, vigorous growth and just let that be the new leader.

Yeah I think that’s what I’ll do alongside the immunox this wknd. Wonder if this side got trapped in some of that wind during the noreaster or something.

Is that mentioned in one of the reddit threads?
I thought the Reddit post above just says that it’s a chance seedling of Peterson seedlings, possibly mixed with white fleshed wild Canadian ones that I assume are nearby.

No…I have no idea what the parentage is. The NC1 sucker is a whole different story. Timothy Lane mentioned it on FB…he grafted a stick of the white fleshed “NC1” at his place.

I cut back my Maria’s Joy to just the leader and 2 branches today. Two branches on it were finally pushing from old nodes. The bigger side branch from down low had a lot of vascular damage. The newer wood actually looked fine…it was the older wood with the blue staining. Frustrating.
