@Blake , what is your best preforming and tasting white pawpaw? Do they tend to have a different flavor compared to orange/yellow fleshed ones?
My technique for protecting pawpaw fruitā¦
Just thought Iād share:
Does anyone have 10-20+ pawpaw seedlings from good varieties willing to send (Iāll pay shipping)? I probably have planted 100 seedlings of my own with in local parks this month and need about 20 more to finish the areas I wanted to plant. I gave away 50 persimmon seedlings to someone this spring so maybe someone can pay it forward with some seedlings
send me a message if you got some. I like to plant them now in the fall to let the roots get established.
White taste very different to orange IMO. The whites break out of the standard pawpaw flavor and personally I think they are better. But everyone has different taste though.
100 years ago there was debate about whether white-fleshed pawpaws were/should be considered a different species or subspecies.
Back then there seemed to be a greater prevalence of wild white fleshed trees based on the commentary.
Thanks for sharing that, finally managed to secure an order for Pomperās Choice. It will make for a fun addition to the collection. Rather small size but if anything like the Shenandoah I bought from Edible Landscaping, it should adjust just fine. Plus Iām eager to see how fast I can get it going next year with generous compost application.
was going to wait till april of next year to make the yearly update but i peeked at it again and boy has it come a long way:
I do a similar thing sometimes but with chicken wire wraps.
Florence White is absolutely luscious and is one of the best performing pawpaws in general. The flavor of white pawpaws in my experience tends to be more vanilla / marshmallow / mild and with less of the metallic / wild pawpaw nastiness.
Is Florence nice and sweet too? Or are those flavors also weaker?
I picked that Mango cluster of seven or eight that was in my video around the one minute mark ā¦
These were the sizes of the five that fell (in the ziplock, completely supported by the bag resting on the branch so it didnāt pull the other two off)ā¦
And the two remaining I think are in the 160 range.
Iāve been growing pawpaw trees for 3 years and still havenāt tasted the fruit. Could I buy pawpaws from someone in South Georgia/North Florida? Or is it too late down here?
