Has anyone here tried using the fungicide Trichoderma harzianum as a foliar spray to control peach leaf curl? If so, how did it work? I’m trying to come up with a decent organic method other than copper sprays as the run-off isn’t supposed to be good for soil health.
How many and what size are the trees?A framework could be made, with a heavy(about 3-6 mil)clear poly plastic put over them, before the leaves bud out in the Spring and then taken off after. Brady
Is there a product with the fungus Trichoderma harzianum that is labeled for foliar spray? I came up with this stuff, but it isn’t labeled for foliar application, only for soil-borne rots.
This product is a different fungus, but is labeled as a foliar spray.
Thanks Brady. I have 12 peach / nectarine trees. I thought about the rain shelter but thats a lot of work, but I may end up doing that. Good thing they are all at 8 ft and less!
Thanks Levers. Actinovate is an antibiotic and I’ve read the run-off can also harm the spoil. Too bad they don’t make it clear if the T. harzianum can be used as a foliar spray. I don’t think it could harm anything and its great for the soil.
You can use other synthetic fungicides for peach leaf curl such as Chlorothalonil.
Yeah the liquid copper products have so little copper, they are near useless anyway, You have to use Copper Hydroxide products which still have a decent punch.
Lime-sulfur can also be used with oil. Hard to find these days. This is probably the safest way. I use all three products myself for various reasons. I have heard copper is bad for the soil, but never seen any orchards or anything become useless due to it’s use, so question how dangerous it really is? I don’t dispute any claims, just curious as to where it has caused harm.
I also have never heard of anybody being poisoned by copper. I’m sure it’s possible, but never ever heard of a case. Very small amounts are needed to stay alive, you can buy copper nutrient supplements.
I’m using HT as a spray before the leaves come out in the spring and mixing it with “natural wet” and high sugar molasses.
