Zone 6A-7 Illinois. Planted this spring as bare roots. Looked great all summer and this happens. I use Captan, immunox and Eagle 20e in rotations. Use Sevin and Malithion for insects. Soil was prepared the year before. I have searched and not really found what is going on. We had a very hot spell but I still irrigated. Any help would be wonderful.
Any signs of Vole tunnels? Is the tree still firmly rooted?
Never really had vole problems around here that I know of. My dog and barn cats have full control of the yard and kill most pests.
You might have burned it with all those sprays in the heat. A new peach doesn’t really need any of that, wait until you have fruit or see some disease. I am no expert on those sprays but Captan and Malathion are both sprays that should be avoided in the heat.
Even for my fruiting peaches I have not sprayed for three months, and they are fine. I do a dormant spray and lots of spraying from petal fall to dime sized fruits.
Agree with Scott. The only spray you need is probably a dormant copper for Peach leaf curls.
Looks like they’ve had too much water. One thing this forum has taught peaches need well drained soil. Does your finger come out moist if you stick your finger down in the soil? As scott mentioned they may have also been burnt with spray.
I have some weirdness going on with one of this years peach grafts. Never seen anything like it before. I haven’t sprayed anything on these grafts and they all were treated the same. Only differnce is i have it tied tie to a length of bamboo with a strip of old rag. Anyone have a clue what’s going on here?
dog might have peed in it?
Thanks
