Peach Seedlings

Hello,

Last year, I planted several peach seedlings into pots on my balcony. Two of them survived - one of them is doing quite good; the other’s shell has cracked and I can see green growth inside as well as some roots, but still hasn’t sprouted yet. It also looks kind of dried up, but it has rained a couple times recently. It’s been five days, will it still survive, and can I transplant it into the ground?

Also, when and how would I go about transplanting the seedling that is growing well?

Thanks!

Wait till theyre actually growing. They can hit 2feet no problem in something as small as a pint pot. I wouldn’t mess with them if theyre sprouting right now. The pit could be stuck on that one though so see if you can gently remove it or crack the rest of the way open

I grew out a bunch of heirloom peaches and grew them in pots until Fall and planted after they were dormant. Was easier for me to let them grow and keep them watered that way but im not sure if there is a right way or wrong way… as some people plant the seeds where they want them to grow. Some say that most of the root growth happens in the fall… so thats when i did mine…YMMV.

I have some late season O’Henry peach pits I planted in a kiddie pool last fall. I think 4 or 5 have sprouted. So following this thread.

I have three seedlings from Indian Free. I decided to grow them in containers. What I did is crack the shell off, and wrap it in moist paper towel in the fridge. Once stratified it will sprout.i move it to soil in a small pot. Under light until spring. Slowly acclimate to full sun and put them in25 and 30 gallon root pouches. I was thinking of grafting them onto my tree, if I was going to keep them. I decided to just grow them dwarfed by the pot.
It’s the fourth leaf now.
Here they are today.

I cut them back this year. I should have did it last year two plants next to each other, a graft of Hollywood plum is on one. Most of the fruiting wood was cut off but still has loads of flowers.
These are on cement so roots cannot escape.

My other one is on the ground and will root into the ground. I’m sure it already has. It has a pluot grafted on one scaffold. The left side looks bad but it’s fine it was six feet tall and I cut in half. Again should have done that last spring.

I had fruit last year. Excellent!

I like to dry Indian Free. The best dried fruit ever.

The mother tree is doing well. All my trees have multiple grafts. That an Arctic Glo nectarine to the left of it.
I keep my trees under 7 feet
Mother tree is 10th leaf.
