Three pears are falling today, 8/4/2024, so I checked to see if any release with a gentle tilt. They all did.
Belle Lucrative (Fondante d’Automne)
I grew this pear in the past but lost it to fireblight in 2015. I grafted it on a mature tree two years ago and it had a few pears this year. It is an old Flemish pear that is an excellent dessert pear. I can’t remember when the pear matured on my previous tree but I think this is quite early. All the descriptions say it is ripe in late Sept or early Oct. I wonder if it is mislabeled. The fruit description in Morgan’s The Book of Pears matches what I’m seeing today. We’ll see if the taste matches!
Next is Beierschmitt. Here is the link to last year’s post
And the last variety for today. This is an unknown that I hope someone can help identify. It is a limb at the base of my Rocha tree. Rocha was grafted onto a rootstock that regrew after a young tree was killed by fireblight in either 2014 or 2015. This variety does not match what was originally grafted on that tree and I do not remember grafting any other variety on the tree. A mystery!
