Pears 2026

I picked the single fruit that I had last year at the end of September, this year I have a dozen, will probably pick them end of September-mid October.

By the way, is Dana Hovey a late pear for you? How does its harvest time compare to Magness and Drippin’ Honey? My scaffold has more than two dozen fruit, and this is my first crop.

That makes me feel better, my Drippin Honey are looking to be a September pick.

Re: Dana Hovey, it’s late.. maybe mid-October for you. I haven’t even looked at them yet.

A few Magness are getting close to ripe for me now, I put a couple early ripening ones in the fridge today.

My Yulu fragrant pears are getting close to ripe now, it is such an awesome pear! The crunch is just unbelievable, and the taste is already very good! The squirrels have been swiping these in past years so I have not gotten many but this year my squirrel protection seems to be holding. Squirrels know good fruit.. they recently grabbed all my Chestnut crabs.

I’ll have to do a soil sample and find out. Historically this has only happened on dry years in those same plots though. Now I’m curious if it is indeed something else. Thanks for the tip.
